Description | The subject is an actor dressed in sandals and a toga, which falls midway between his knees and ankles and completely envelops his slender torso and arms. He is standing with his left leg advanced and slightly bent; both his feet are, however, set flat upon a little round base which supports him. His left forehand is extended, the fist clenched as if holding some object. With his right hand he strokes the chin of his mask, which is of comic type - with beady close-set eyes, a diminutive snub nose, and a great leering mouth. A wig of thick corkscrew curls frames the mask and covers the back of the actor's head, down the nape (Hutchinson). |
