| 3500bc - 2500bc | An oval barrow aligned EW. Slight evidence for a mortuary chamber at the east end of the mound, but any contents had been destroyed by ploughing. A timber facade at the east end of the mound might have been joined with the 'mortuary chamber' to form a hexagonal setting of six posts. Two continuous flanking ditches on the north and south sides had been dug as linked pits. The north ditch contained a large deposit of cattle bones in the initial weathering fill, and the south ditch east terminal a collection of 37 pieces of flint from a single flint nodule. Eleven antler pieces were found in the primary ditch rubble. Pottery of the Beaker to post Medieval periods was found in disturbed contexts. No burials were recorded. |
