Description | Stands with left hand open, thumb raised. Fairly crude facial features with long nose and incised cap hair. Uncertain identification. The museum lists it as a charioteer, while the stance is similar to that of many priests or worshippers. There is some confusion over the references for this figure, Pitts lists it as Mercury, but she has no no 45 so this could be typo. Or it could be due to the fact that Green (1976) confused this figure with the Mercury from Brant Broughton (no 61). Hawkes states that the Mercury is from Broughton and another figure from Tallington, but he does not state what the figure is. |
